Oil & Gas Glossary
An instrument air system is a field utility: compressor, dryer, filters, and receiver that feed pneumatic actuators and controllers with air instead of produced gas. Gas-driven pneumatics vent methane and VOCs on every stroke or continuously on bleed controllers. Air systems remove that vent at the device.
Quad O and company methane programs are the usual reason Permian facilities convert. The package has to keep dewpoint and capacity through West Texas summer heat, or valves stick and operators bypass back to gas. Receiver volume and dryer spec are as important as compressor horsepower.
Redhead Services supplies instrument air packages for production facilities. See Quad O regulations and pneumatic controllers for how this sits in an emissions plan.
